I Was a Free Range Kid

I was a free range kid of the 1970s, and look how badly I turned out. Hat tip to Reason.

I just had a discussion like this with a hay customer. As a kid I personally involved with a homebuilt black powder cannon that shot tin cans and old motorcycle pistons high into the air. I rode a motorcycle when I could not touch the ground and had to start it while leaning it against a building and I had to stop it by either crashing or leaning it against something. I carried a pocketknife at school. Kids refinished gun stocks in shop class. I drove truck on the highway before I had a driver's license.
Everyone was quite amazed and shocked at the events that inspired the Boomtown Rats song, "I don't like Mondays," It was out of our comprehensin that someone would do such a thing.
Progress...
Interesting that those who were smoking pot behind the school and questioning authority are those that are carrying on the drug war and now restricting the liberty of our kids.
